Arctic air passed through the "Vienna Gate"; Seriously cold weather ahead - what's in store for the holidays?

Unusually low temperatures for this time of year in the higher regions will drop a little below -10 degrees in the morning hours, while stabilization in the atmosphere will affect the gradual transition from winter to spring and summer temperatures. Meteorologists say that significantly warmer weather is expected for the holidays, Easter and May Day.

A gradual temperature leap of 20 degrees

Meteorologist Ivan Ristic says that the temperature will rise by as much as 20 degrees in the next ten days.

"With the penetration of cold Arctic air through the "Vienna Gate" in the region, there was a sudden drop in temperature. The weather is changeable, significantly colder, windy with alternating sun and clouds. The maximum daily temperatures today will be from 5 to 10 degrees, while the minimum in the lower regions will be from 0 to -10, and in the higher regions a little below -10 degrees," says Ristić.

Frost is expected today, there will be precipitation in some places, rain in the lower parts and snow in the higher parts of Serbia.

A jump to summer temperatures, and a smaller drop for Easter

According to his weather forecast, cold weather with occasional precipitation will remain in Serbia until around mid-April. He reminds that the average temperatures for this month are minimum, from 6 to 11 degrees, maximum from 15 to 21 degrees.

"After the sudden drop in temperature, the temperature rises every day, and from the middle of the month, from April 15, we will even have summer temperatures. It is expected that around April 15, 16 and 17 it will be 25 degrees, possibly even more, while for Easter the temperature will have a smaller drop, to around 20 degrees, and there will be a little rain. We will have a transition from winter to summer and the sudden rise in temperatures that follows will be a real temperature roller coaster," says Ivan Ristić.

Weather will affect people and agricultural crops

He notes that the new weather conditions will affect people's health due to the sudden transition from very cold to unusually warm weather, and that special attention should be paid to chronically ill people. His recommendation is that particularly sensitive categories of people follow the weather forecast and regularly take prescribed therapy so that their health condition does not deteriorate.

Also, this week the frost of -5 to 0 degrees can be harmful to orchards and agricultural crops, which is why it is important for fruit growers and farmers to apply protective measures.

More sun in the third decade of April, and changeable for May Day

"The temperature is expected to rise by 20 degrees. As we get closer to Easter, the temperature will gradually increase, but the maximum values ​​will still be below or around 20 degrees. Only in the third decade of April, more sunny days, less cloudiness and a decrease in precipitation are expected. The minimum temperatures will be between 6 and 11 degrees, while the maximum temperatures will reach values ​​between 18 and 23 degrees. For May Day, the weather will be changeable," says Ristić.

Unusually cold weather

Amateur meteorologist Marko Čubrilo announced "unusually cold weather this week, followed by stabilization that will bring a gradual increase in temperature." According to his forecast, spring weather will return to us for Easter.

"In the first part of this week, it will be unusually cold with occasional precipitation and a great risk of late frosts. In the second part of the week, there will be a gradual stabilization, and for the next weekend, a noticeable thaw. In the lower parts of the region, gusts of rain, sleet, snow or hail are expected, and over 800 meters above sea level on the mountains of eastern and central Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia, snow gusts should be expected, and in those areas we should expect a snow cover of 2 m to 15 cm depending on the altitude," says Čubrilo.

A moderate, strong northwesterly wind will blow in the precipitation zone. The maximum temperature will be well below the average for this part of the year and will range from 2 to 9 degrees Celsius. The nights will be very cold with a high risk of late frost, which would be from -8 to -2 degrees Celsius in the mountains, and from -4 to 0 degrees Celsius in the lower parts of the region.

From Thursday, a slight increase in temperature, spring weather for the holidays

"On Thursday, there will be occasional precipitation mainly over the east of the region, while the air temperature will rise slightly, but it will remain relatively fresh and windy with increased and strong west and northwest winds. Due to more clouds, the risk of frost should be lower, while the daily maximum would range from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius," Čubrilo announced.

From Friday, the strengthening of the anticyclone will follow, through which a southwesterly air current will be established, so that stabilization and melting will follow. The nights will continue to be cold, but daytime highs for the weekend will be between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius.

"The Easter holidays could pass in true spring time, the temperature would be around the average and occasional precipitation is expected," concludes Čubrilo.
